The Dirty Water Club, London 20/05/05

The Dirty Water Club
, Tufnell Park, was, by comparison, a huge barn of a place, although this did not mean it was any better ventilated. Sweat? Joel, Disco and I looked like we'd been pissed upon by several elephants, standing there all bedraggled and steaming afterwards.
It was a huge party night to mark the final gig of The Parkinsons, London's premier garage-punk extroverts, and the quiffs were out in force, accompanied by a jaw-dropping number of Betty Page look-a-like girlfriends. Luckily for us, they were in the mood to be kind to strangers, and we were made to feel very welcome, with clapping and dancing and stuff.
Also on the bill were the maniacal Speed Stars, who turned out to be thoroughly nice chaps too, despite wearing some of the tightest leather jackets ever manufactured.

Highlight: Victor Parkinson's 20 minute guitar solo whilst crowd-surfing
Lowlight: Merchie board becoming possessed by demons and attacking Lindsey
