Anniversary,
King Tuts, Glasgow 30/03/07 As a veteran of attending 'meanies gigs, in the sense that I've no choice cos I'm playing, I'm pretty sure that was one of the times, in our chequered 10 year history, when it all came together spectacularly well and we did a gig worthy of inclusion in my own personal memory bank of riotous shows perpetrated by multi-member bands with scene-specific haircuts and drink problems The crowd reciprocated in fine style by singing the words, the brass lines and the odd snippet of keyboard, occasionally just in time to fill the spaces left by Helen Hammond, who had been at the whisky backstage and was, in the later stages of the gig, slightly indisposed It was the Best.Crowd.Ever. And in case you've already forgot: free whisky in the goodie bags: embarassing photo slideshow: professional-ish rock'n'roll intros and band introductions: champagne shower for the moshpit: two new songs: AND a celebrity guitarist doing duelling banjos with John Disco for the 'Last Night' solo.. .then being forced to stay on and improvise twangs, with amusingly mixed results, for 'Whisky'... If you weren't there cos you couldn't be, the good news is that Mr Weedman, our resident photographer, had a video camera with him, and Shona, our resident sound-lady, recorded the entire show on crispy-clear minidisc. Once the two formats are conjoined (and once I've edited out the songs that sound shaky in the cold light of day) I'll stick the results up on YaTube, and on our www.amphetameanies.co.uk site at higher resolution Finally ...IF you knew about the gig ...and live locally but just didn'y bother... achh ... my heart goes out to you. I don't blame you, cos you always think "there'll be another 'meanies gig along in a few months", but, pfff, not like that one, not for a while |
